The conflict between what we see and what we believe is the age old conflict between the seen and unseen. The battle is over what is considered more real.
To view the unseen as more real then what is seen will take a decision of the will to believe that the unseen exists, and that unseen kingdom reality is greater then the things we see. To get to this place will take Faith, a Faith that comes from hearing God, and His word (Rom.10:17). This Faith deposit into our Spirits is the evidence of the unseen, or better said, is proof that unseen things truly exist (Heb.11:1).
Once Gods word and the Faith it brings (Rom 10:17) is firmly anchored in our spirits, we now have something real to look at, an alternative reality that we can turn our gaze too, one which can challenge what we see. Now our wills can choose what it will believe.
We see this fight of Faith in Abrahams life below:
Romans 4:16-22:
Therefore it is of faith that it might be according to grace, so that the promise might be [d]sure to all the seed, not only to those who are of the law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all 17 (as it is written, “I have made you a father of many nations”) in the presence of Him whom he believed—God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did; 18 who, contrary to hope, in hope believed, so that he became the father of many nations, according to what was spoken, “So shall your descendants be.”19 And not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah’s womb. 20 He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, 21 and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform. 22 And therefore “it was accounted to him for righteousness.”
Abraham had two realities to consider, the first reality was his body being 100 years old and Sarah his wife not able to have children, the second reality was GOD SAID "I have made you the father of many nations" (verse17), Abraham had to make a choice which reality to believe, and we see in verse 18 "contrary to Hope, in Hope he believed", what are these two hopes? Contrary to any natural chance they would have a child since Abraham was 100 and Sarah infertile, in HOPE HE BELIEVED, the second hope was GOD SAID " I have made you the father of many nations," we see once Abraham chose to believe what God said over what he saw, it says "HE BECAME the Father of many nation, and Isaac was born, Praise God.
We also need to look for the Greater Realities hidden in Gods word for our lives so we can also begin to believe them and BECOME everything Gods says in His word we can
become.
